This year, I’m using the Present Over Perfect Guided Journal. I read Shauna Neiquist’s Present Over Perfect book when it came out a few years ago and so much of it just connected with me. When I saw she had created a journal, I knew it was right for this season of my life. The journal has small excerpts from the book and prompts to help you think, reflect, and write. I’ll be sharing some of the prompts and my responses.
Prompt (pg. 22): Each season will come with its own unique purposes and priorities that call out for your time. What are you committing to in this season?
In this season of life, I am committed to being present for my family. To loving God, self, family, and others well. That means working less, being home mostly, and putting career aspirations aside.
In this season, I am committed to doing less so I can be more. Be present. Be in the moment. Be authentic. Be fully me and alive and in this life God has given me.
In this season, I am committed to discerning the next right thing. To being in tune with the Spirit. To pausing to listen and attune to God before answering or doing.
In this season, I am committed to understanding self and my relationships with others. To being healthy, so that I can be a light and haven for others.
As you ponder this season of your life, what are you committed to?
