This year, I’m using the Present Over Perfect Guided Journal. I read Shauna Neiquist’s Present Over Perfect book when it came out a few years ago and so much of it just connected with me. When I saw she had created a journal, I knew it was right for this season of my life. The journal has small excerpts from the book and prompts to help you think, reflect, and write. I’ll be sharing some of the prompts and my responses.
Prompt (pg. 128): How do you feel about your possessions? Do you have too little, exactly what you need, way more than you need, or so much that you are drowning in it?
Over the last few years I have thought of my possessions a lot. Mot because I want “stuff,” but because i want to understand my connection to my stuff. I’ve been trying to live a more minimalist life. I don’t want my stuff to weigh me down. I want to live what I own and hold it loosely.
I want to fully own what I have (no debt), steward the environment and resources well (re use, repurpose), and own quality items (not quantity). I want less to clean and space to breath. The problem is, I get distracted by “cute” stuff and I lose focus. I get tired of what I have and get sucked in by comparison. It is a dangerous, slippery slope.
I have what I need, more than i need. It is time to bless others again.
